Meet Shad and his family.

Diagnosed with a very large tumor called Medulloblastoma at the age of 28 months old did not stop this young vibrant and handsome boy from playing with his favorite toys, Thomas the Tank, cars, trucks, puzzles, and watching Caillou, Teletubbies, Winnie the Pooh, and Franklin. He also enjoyed pretending to be Power Rangers with his big brother. For almost 3 years Shad battled with cancer going from 3 surgeries, over 2 years of chemo, experimental drugs such as oral VP16, head and spinal radiation, and a coma while unable to stand or walk...and much much more. On September 5, 2000, Shad took his last breaths in the arms of his daddy, as his parents and brother held him for hours singing his favorite songs. He was even a featured superstar on Smiles'n Hugs--imagine that Shad's smiling then! Shad finally took flight and joined the ranks with other Angels..."do not remember him for the cancer, but do remember what a light Shad has been to all who have touched him"... "Shad's smiles and laughters , his outgoing personality and his charm drew people towards him. He has touched so many people in many different ways, and has made a lasting impression for so many... with so much love we await to see you again in Heaven, Mommy, Daddy and big brother"

"Michelle was a smart, funny, happy nine year old in 1993 when she first began complaining that her stomach hurt. We repeatedly took her to the doctor's office, who after running test after test could still find nothing wrong. Her bowel movements had definitely changed but it didn't occur to the doctors' that a tumor could be the cause. The doctor did warn me of one thing, if I saw blood in her stool, I was to tell him immediately. Well...In November 1993, a sore appeared on her bottom. Antibiotics did nothing, so we were referred to a surgeon who drained it. The pathology from the drainage showed malignant cancer cells and a follow-up CT showed a large tumor in her pelvic area. Several months later, in January of 1994, she started radiation and chemo and this process continued until July 1997 when the tumor over took her body causing pneumonia, fungal infections, and breathing difficulties as well as many other problems. The morning of September 13th, after having spent a restless and wakeful night, she had a seizure and died in my arms. Remember Michelle for her positive personality. Despite the cancer, she continued to go to school, playing drums in the band, playing softball in Little League, going to theme parks whenever possible, going to birthday parties and weddings, and just enjoying being alive at the moment, just like any other eigth grader." ...story sent in by her loving mother.
